Class of 1972 - John Welling

I received my B.S. in Psychology/Sociology from Malone College. I am currently living in Jeffersonville, Ohio and am the Plant Manager for a Japanese transplant company New Sabina Industries in Sabina, Ohio. New Sabina is a tier one automotive subsiderary of Nippon Seiki, a large manufacturing holding company based in Nagaoka, Japan. We currently have 400 employees at the Sabina facility and are going to expand again this next fiscal year. New Sabina Industries manufactures instrument clusters for a variety of customers including Honda, Subaru, and Chrysler. In 2003 we will be the sole source for the Chrysler Jeep Cherokee, Lerado, and Honda Accord instrament clusters. I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience at New Sabina Industries as it challenges me everyday and has afforded me some unique experinces. I have also enjoyed the global travel it has required of me. Todate, I have traveled to Austria and Mexico several times and to Japan at least 5 times. After spending of much of my vocational career working in domestic companies including General Motors  Mansfield, Copperweld  Shelby, United Technologies  Zanesville, I am finding my experience in this Japanese organization to be by far the most rewarding. I do expect that my career will end with this organiztion. In contrast to my professional life where I have experienced some degree of success, my personal life has been in some regards less then I anticepated. Perhaps it was because I assumed my family would wait for me, I am once again alone. The silver lining is the fact that I do have four wonderful children whom I adore and one incredible grandson. The oldest girls, Rene and Rochelle, (21&22) live in the Toledo area. Rene is happily married to a fine young man (sounds like my dad talking) and Rochelle is planning a large (expensive) wedding in the spring of this year. Nathanial Morgan, my first grandson, is Renes first child. The two younger children, Shauna and John Mark, live in Bucyrus, Ohio, and are very active students in the Wynford School District. Shauna is 14, a freshman in high school, Mark is 11 and is in the sixth grade. Shauna has already lettered in cross country and will letter on her freshman basketball team. John Mark plays basketball at the Bucyrus YMCA but prefers football and is looking forward to Junior High football next year. I enjoy very much watching them play and get to most of their activities. Although I have made many mistakes, I am truly blessed in many ways. I dont know about our classmates but I have reached a point in my life that I have taken some time to consider the opportunities I have been given. I honestly believe that the confidences I developed throughout my lifes experiences, began at Mt. Gilead High. Perhaps because of the direction my life had taken prior to my highschool experience it was in fact a critical crossroad. I will be eternally grateful to my classmates at Mt Gilead High. I have probably put you to sleep by now so I will stop. I am looking forward to seeing all of my friends at the reunion especially the Uptown Edison Elite (Wenger, Robinson, Watkins, Hildebrand, Hawk, Jagger, etc.).
