After receiving a dual B.A. (Biology and Business Admin) from Ohio Northern in 1976 I was employed by the University as an Admissions Rep for two years. In April, 1978 I began a career in telecommunications at Ohio Bell and moved to AT&T Information Systems when the Bell System was broken up in January, 1984. Sales and Sales Management assignments at AT&T included National Accounts (Borden Foods and Chemicals, Nationwide Insurance), Government (State of Ohio), Education Markets (Elem/Secondary and University), as well as a stint with AT&T Computer Systems. With 14 years of BIG telecom company experience, in January, 1991 I made a dramatic jump to a small (450 employees), nearly bankrupt fiber optic-based telecom company as the Director of Sales. The move proved to be quite exciting as the company struggled, secured some large accounts, went public, and acquired a number of smaller companies during the go-go tech growth years in the mid-1990s. As a Regional VP, I was heavily involved with the integration of sales forces and client accounts as we continued to buy regional telecom companies. By 1998 we had grown to 6,000 employees and were bought out by Qwest Communications, a smaller, quite ambitious firm sporting only a fraction of our revenues and only 400 employees. I continued in the role of a VP as Qwest also acquired other companies, including the 2000 acquisition of US West. With $20 billion in revenues, over 30 million customers, and 55,000 employees the combined company is too similar to the monolithic Ohio Bell/AT&T that I left in 1991. Hence, I retired this past summer to pursue some of the interests I missed as I was married to the corporate world the past 25 years. I married in 1977, divorced in 1989, and continue to be best friends with Teri as we jointly raise our two sons in two houses in Pataskala (25 miles east of Columbus). Kirt graduated from high school this past June with valedictorian honors having all A's since first grade. During his HS years he lettered and served as captain on the soccer, basketball, and tennis teams as well as president of the student body. He is currently a freshman at Bucknell University majoring in BioChem and Business with a minor in Spanish and is thinking Pre-Law. He is a starter on the rugby team, has avoided serious injury, and is having a blast. Kody is a junior in high school, and after winning all-district honors last year and finishing as the #3 Division II freshman at the State Cross Country Meet two years ago he elected to return to soccer after a two year hiatus. The varsity soccer team won the District and got knocked out of the State tourney in the Regional finals with Kody scoring 6 tourney goals including a hat trick in the District Final. He is also a returning letterman on the varsity basketball and track teams. He is a good student and in addition to his sports he maintains a booming yard care business with 14 clients. He also seems to spend a lot of time "mud running" in his POS '92 Blazer that was adorned with steer horns this past summer.
